I’ve ridden a stack of 6-hr Vic.Enduro races, and ridden Mt.Buller a bunch of time, and have clocked up many, many laps of my home ground at Lysterfield, but I began to wonder what it would be like to load up, and ride+camp overnight.
Take two good friends, some bike paths and fire trails, and a sensational hilltop view. Add threatening skies on a Monday evening and people testing out their new lightweight camping solutions. What do you have? Well you have last March's micro-adventure to the Eastern Escarpment Conservation Area.
I'm just back from a fine mountain bike overnight micro-adventure in Queensland, Australia: Boonah to Mount Joyce base camp, and back again (a slightly different way). I’m doing these overnighters both because I like doing them and to gain experience for The Big Expedition later in the year.

Despite joyfully immersing ourselves in the local wines of South Australia's Clare Valley, especially the Watervale Rieslings, the iconic Barossa Valley is within a day’s ride of our home, perfect for a little local cycling adventure. So, despite the less than reassuring weather forecast for the weekend (showers, wind, and possible hail), the Swiss Mountain Goat and I brave the chill to explore our backyard by bike.
