Brandon, Jim, and I hatched a plan for an epic weekend touring ride early in the summer over lunch at our favorite cajun restaurant. Bored with the typical racing and group ride culture that seems to permeate popular cycling, we wanted to plan rides that were adventures — fun, relaxing, yet still incredibly challenging. Cincinnati was a convenient 120 miles from Indy, so we decided to take a 3-day weekend and ride there and back.
Shortly after turning onto Township Road 362, we zoomed downhill past a horse-drawn buggy driven by two teenage boys. And, boys being boys, they gave chase. (Or at least we think they did.) We rolled by tranquil green countryside occupied by well-kept farms, and the sound of the horses' hooves pounding the pavement stayed behind us. "I think they are gaining on us!" I shouted to Nance.
I had done this trip so many times before but this was the first time since my crash. I had ridden through the winter taking just a month to recover. Still, I wasn't sure how I would feel.
