We loaded up our touring bikes, plopped our 15 month old in the Burley, and away we went!
A bike overnight to test camping gear, escape the Front Range heat, and sample a section of Adventure Cycling's TransAmerica Trail from Rand, CO to Walden, CO.
This was a quick two-night ride, north to south, on the Peak to Peak Highway, Estes Park to Evergreen. Ideally this would be ridden in late summer or early fall to take advantage of warm weather or changing colors.
This is a beautiful summer or fall-color ride over high alpine four-wheel-drive roads and an old rail trail, coupled with a wonderful overnight stay in Telluride, Colorado.
I have thought about biking from Fort Collins to Laramie many times, but never really had an excuse. In June 2014 I found one. Most years we (myself, husband, sister, and various friends) run the oldest footrace in Wyoming, the Pilot Hill 25K. This year I biked up to Laramie the day before the race, spent the night, and then ran the race the next day. I will admit my bike and I got a ride home.
I made a trip to Colorado recently to escape the Midwest heat and humidity, spending time north of Fort Collins camping, mountain biking, and hiking. I also decided to do an S24O bikepacking overnight while I was out there.
Over the past ten years, I have taken several one- to two-week bike vacations around the U.S. and Europe. However, after retiring in April 2012 and being inspired by the articles on BikeOvernights.org, I decided to take some short tours in and around the beautiful state of Colorado. This article is about my third such trip, which took me up to the eastern side of Rocky Mountain National Park. For this three-day ride, I biked with panniers on days one and three, and did an unloaded ride to the top of Trail Ridge Road on day two. The two nights out I spent in a hotel in Estes Park.
