Ventura to Ojai, CA and an Airbnb Yurt

My girlfriend and I rode from our home in Ventura, CA to Ojai, CA to stay overnight in a yurt we found on Airbnb.

Bicycle Adventurers: Erin and Lee

When: June 2016

Accommodations: We found a yurt for our bike overnight shelter on

Distance: 40 miles split between two days

Bonus tip for this adventure: We did an extra 15 miles up Highway 33, north of OJai,  on the morning of our second day into the Los Padres National Forest. The ride was incredibly scenic, but choose a time to avoid the midday heat!

Day One

Our map above shows the bicycle route from Ventura to Ojai on the Ventura River Trail which then links to the nine-mile Ojai Valley TrailHowever, we chose to divert westward from the bike path to ride alongside Lake Casitas and found a small, unattended fruit stand along the way where you could buy pluots for 10 cents apiece and refill your water bottles for free. Score!

Day Two

On day two, Erin met up with a group riding the Ojai Valley Century and ascended all the way to the summit of Highway 33. I met her partway up, then we diverted to Matilija Lake for a quick view before we returned to Ojai for breakfast at Farmer and the Cook, a definite must!
